The Toddler Program offers children 18 months to approximately 3 years of age opportunities to explore their independence and connection to the world using their extraordinary capacity for learning. The environment is set up much like a home with distinct areas for preparing food, eating, changing clothes, toileting, group activities, individual work and quiet moments.
Students will have the opportunity for social interaction, independence and self-expression, with a distinct focus on small and large motor development. If a child is struggling, our teachers will wait and observe, allowing them to determine if or when help is wanted or needed. We consider it our responsibility to observe as much as possible in order to fully know where a child is developmentally and prepare their environment for challenges and growth.
18 MONTHS – 3 YEARS
Areas of Focus
Enthusiasm for Learning
The sequence of activities in the toddler environment helps give order, consistency and security to each child’s daily life, thus allowing the child to have the full potential of their first three years. They experience real and positive interactions with each other and carefully-chosen materials.
Social, Emotional and Cognitive Growth
To meet the various needs a toddler requires during this critical growth stage, our program entails a thoughtfully prepared, nurturing environment that helps foster self-confidence, independence and satisfying relationships with peers and adults.
Practical Life
We aim to enhance the development of task organization and cognitive order through care of self, care of the environment, exercises in grace and courtesy and coordination of physical movement.
Concept Introduction
Sensorial, language, math and cultural lessons begin at this age. Students can use their senses to order and classify objects around them, develop language and expression skills, learn to recognize shapes, count, experience movement and art from around the world and more.
“Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”
