8:15 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. DAILY
Kindergarten is a special time in a child’s Montessori education. After two full years, the Montessori Early Childhood classroom is a familiar environment to these 5-year-olds. The students:
- know the daily routines inside and out
- have teachers that know them well and can readily work with their strengths and encourage them to take on challenges
- are conscious of being the oldest students in the room, having lived through two years of classroom transitions, starting when they were three
During this year, parents (and children!) will witness the “explosion of learning” that Maria Montessori observed more than 100 years ago.

Areas of Focus
Valuing Community
Peace Education guides students to be a valuable member of the community. Teachers encourage self-reflection, conflict resolution, grace and courtesy, and problem solving.
Reading Comprehension
The work students do during the first two years forms the foundation for reading. Students will not only acquire fluency and comprehension, but learn the foundations of grammar and writing stories.
Math Concepts
The manipulation of the concrete math materials prepare the kindergartener to gain a deep understanding of the numeration, quantity, the decimal system, and operations in preparation for the beginnings of abstraction.
Developing Leadership Skills
Beyond the academic achievements that take place, Kindergarteners in Montessori are given a special and very important role as leaders. They gain confidence when given the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with their younger classmates.
